Send messages, photos, and files

Send messages, photos, and files

Type a message, attach a photo or a file, or record a voice message, in any location chat, group chat, or direct message.

September 28, 2026

A photo of the leaking fitting says more than three sentences describing it. Chat takes text, images, files, and voice messages in every conversation.

What you'll need

  • Available on the Bundle plan, or on a Custom plan that includes Chat.
  • Anyone at the location can send messages. There's no role restriction.

Send a message

To send a message:

  1. Select the speech-bubble icon in the header.
  2. Choose a conversation from the left panel, or find it with Search chats...
  3. Select the box marked Type a message... and write your message.
  4. Press enter to send.

Attach a photo or a file

To send an attachment:

  1. Open the conversation.
  2. Select Attach file beside the message box.
  3. Choose the file, add a message if you want one, and send.

Record a voice message

Select Record voice message beside the message box, speak, and send. Useful when your hands are wet and typing isn't happening.

Reply to a specific message

Hover or long-press a message to reach its actions. Quote attaches that message to your reply so the thread stays readable when several things are being discussed at once.

You can also react to a message, mark it unread to come back to it, and edit or delete your own. Those are covered in Edit, delete, or react to a message.

Mention someone

Type @ in the message box and a list of the people in that conversation appears. Choose the person you mean and their name goes into your message.

The list covers whoever is in the conversation you're in, so in a location chat it's everyone at that location, and in a group chat or direct message it's that chat's members.

Good to know
  • Everyone in the conversation sees what you send, including people added to a location chat after the fact.
  • A location chat is visible to everyone assigned to that site. Use a direct message for anything that shouldn't be.
  • Attachments post into the conversation itself, so everyone in the chat can open them without being sent a copy.

Common questions

Can I undo this?

Yes, up to a point. You can delete your own messages, and Admins and Super Admins can delete anyone's. Deleting doesn't unsend a notification that already went out.

Who can do this?

Anyone in the conversation. Sending isn't limited by role.

Will my team get notified?

Yes, unless chat push is off for your company or they've muted the conversation.
