The Account Owner is the one person who can't be deleted and whose role can't be changed. Settings > Transfer Ownership hands that title to another Super Admin. Do it before an owner leaves, not after.
What you'll need
- Only Super Admins see Transfer Ownership. Admins and Team Members don't.
- Whoever takes over has to be a Super Admin already. The page lists nothing else.
- Companies managed by a Service Partner don't have the tab.
What the Account Owner is
- They can't be deleted. The button on their page is greyed out and reads Cannot delete Account Owner.
- Their role can't be changed. The Role field is locked to Super Admin, with a note pointing here.
- They can't be removed from a location, and the Add Location button is hidden on their page.
Transfer ownership
Super Admins only.
To transfer ownership:
- Select Settings > Transfer Ownership.
- Check the Current Account Owner card at the top.
- Find the person, using Search eligible users... if you have a long list.
- Select Transfer Ownership on their card.
- Read Confirm Ownership Transfer, then select Confirm Transfer.
You stay a Super Admin and keep your access. What you lose is the Account Owner title and its protections.
If nobody is listed
No eligible users found. means there's no other Super Admin in the company. Change someone's role to Super Admin under Settings > Users and Roles first, then come back.
Good to know- The transfer is permanent. Only the new owner can move it again.
- Delete the outgoing owner's account only after the transfer. Before it, WashUp refuses with Cannot delete an Account Owner. Please transfer ownership before deleting this user.
- The new owner is added to every location in your company as part of the transfer.
Common questions
Can I hand ownership to an Admin?
No. The Account Owner is always a Super Admin, so change their role to Super Admin first and they'll appear in the list.
Can I undo this?
No. The transfer is permanent, and only the new owner can move it again.
Do I lose access when I hand it over?
No. You keep your Super Admin role and everything that comes with it. Only the owner-specific protections move.
