Someone's missing from a location chat

Someone's missing from a location chat

Location chat membership follows location assignments, so a missing person is nearly always someone who isn't assigned to that location yet.

September 28, 2026

You can't add someone to a location chat by hand, and you don't need to. Membership is built from who's assigned to the location, so fixing the assignment fixes the chat.

Check whether they're assigned to the location

Open the conversation and select View members to see who's in it. If the person isn't listed, they almost certainly aren't assigned to that location.

An Admin or Super Admin can assign them: go to Settings, then Locations, open the location, and add them to its users. They join the location's chat on their own, with no extra step in Chat.

If you just assigned them

Their own session still holds the locations they had when they signed in. Ask them to sign out and back in, and the location chat appears for them.

If they were removed from the location

Taking someone off a location removes them from that location's chat straight away. What they already wrote stays in the conversation, but they can't read or post any more.

Re-assign them to the location and they come back in.

If nobody is in the chat

If the conversation looks empty for everyone, Chat may have been switched off for that location. Turning it off removes everyone from that location's conversation. Switch it back on and members are added again.

If you need them in a conversation without assigning them

Sometimes the person genuinely shouldn't be on the location, they just need to be in on one subject. Start a group chat instead. Group chats aren't tied to a location and you can add anyone at your company.
